Arthur Enters the Hidden Chamber
Before Claire could close the heavy steel door, Arthur reached them.
He stepped into the chamber and looked toward Lily.
He claimed he had built the room to keep her safe.
He insisted the outside world was dangerous.
Claire understood that he had spent years convincing himself that captivity was protection.
Arthur demanded the key.
Claire refused.
Mrs. Higgins Confronts Him
Mrs. Higgins called Arthur a monster.
Arthur reacted violently, knocking the elderly woman to the floor.
Then he moved toward Claire.
Claire pushed Mia behind her and avoided his first attempt to grab her.
For a brief second, Arthur was off balance.
Claire looked toward Lily.
The young woman held out her hands.
Claire finally understood what the key was truly for.
The Key Unlocks Lily’s Collar
Claire rushed toward Lily and inserted the brass key into the iron restraint around her neck.
She turned it.
The mechanism opened.
The collar fell away from Lily for the first time in twelve years.
Arthur immediately realized what had happened.
He moved toward his daughter in fury.
But Lily was no longer physically attached to the floor.
Lily Fights Back
Lily reached beneath her mattress and pulled out an old iron wrench she had hidden.
When Arthur came toward her, she struck his leg.
He collapsed to his knees.
Claire grabbed Mrs. Higgins’s cane and struck him again, giving them enough time to escape.
Claire helped Lily stand.
Mia stayed beside her.
Mrs. Higgins struggled back to her feet.
Together, they moved through the steel doorway and into Claire’s basement.
Arthur Is Locked Inside His Own Cell
Claire slammed the reinforced door shut behind them.
She used the same brass key to lock it.
The heavy mechanism clicked into place.
Arthur Blackwood was now trapped inside the underground chamber he had created.
For the first time, Lily stood on the other side of the door.
